Staying safe in Benidorm
You will no doubt have heard of muggings etc. that occur in Benidorm. I wanted to find out a little more about this, so on a recent visit began collecting evidence.

Have you ever wondered as to whether package tour operators try to scare you into not purchasing a timeshare since it will rob them of potential revenue? I often wondered about that and so decided to find out for myself.
There is bad press about timeshares, then again there is bad press about some package holidays companies.
Timeshare will not suit everyone, so who will it suit?
- Those wishing to visit the same place year after year since this can save money by not having to pay to transfer to a different location.
- Those that are not bothered if entertainment is provided or not since they prefer to make their own.
- Those that prefer to either cook for themselves or eat out.
Who will it not suit?
- Those that prefer to holiday in a different locations every year

Have you recently found yourself paying excess baggages charges on the return leg of your holiday?
Were you told you would have to pay excess after the luggage had gone onto the conveyor system?
Did you find that they only accepted cash in payment for the excess baggage costs?
Were they many others also having to pay excess baggage charges on the same flight?
What better way to make money than to alter the scales on the check in desks by a tiny percentage, one turn with a screwdriver to adjust the scan is all it would take in some instances. No credit card transactions so that the money paid could be shared out by those in on the scam!!!!! Poor holiday makers scared that their luggage would not be waiting at their home airport.
Now you know that there is a potential for this to take place my advice is to
- weigh your luggage if possible before you reach the airport.
- make sure you obtain a receipt for payment which shows the amount of excess weight you are carrying.
- weigh the luggage on your return home and then report and differences to the airline involved.
- add a comment on this page as to the airline and airport you flew back from including where possible the date.

Qawra is pronounced Awra and is situated on the edge of San Pawl's bay. You cannot tell if you are in Qawra or Buggiba since they are both so close together than one town merges into the next. There are no sandy beaches in Qawra, only rocks from which to get into the sea, yet the area is very popular with tourists. So what could make Qawra such a popular place?
Hands up all those of you that want to drive on holiday and those who do not like getting ripped of by the cost of tour operator excursions. Wow, seems like there are a great number of you out there that feel like I do. Well those without your arm up, this area might still appeal for other reasons. Other reasons could be that most of the hotels seem to be in quieter locations and yet within easy walking distance of bars and many different styles of dining.
Oh now i got side tracked talking to those without their hand up. Malta's main bus station is very close to the capital Valletta, the only other bus station on the island (excluding Victoria) is at Qawra (will stand corrected if there is another). Now Maltese buses are something you might see on Heartbeat or in 60's movies since many are extremely old. Some older readers will understand when the term double declutching is used to describe how gear shift is obtained on some of these buses. Air conditioning is achieved by having the door at the front of the bus left open. Seems strange that these older buses do not seem to trap heat like modern coaches do and thus travelling on the buses does not cause undue perspiration.
Still on with buses in Malta, the cost of a 7 day ticket to travel from 5;30 to 23:00 will cost in the region of 14 euro. Now perhaps it becomes more apparent why Qawra could be your ideal location. If you prefer your holidays to be one of sight seeing, from this base you can get to many different parts of the island. Other parts of the island can be reached by catching a bus that goes back to the main bus station.
If you are young free and single and looking for an active night life full of disco bars etc then Qawra is not the place I would recommend you to stay, although you could travel to Paceville by bus.
Like many other places in Malta or indeed elsewhere for that matter, you need to look at reviews carefully. Do bare in mind too that Malta is either a place to love or to hate and that the reviews can reflect the sentiment of the reviewer in this respect.

Mentioned about cheap holidays on school run and one the mums asked what I could get for October/November for family which would be two adults and two children (between 2 and 11).
So my initial search begins as per the normal with teletext holidays and the cheapest is at the Vistamar apartments for £379 which would include the school holiday. There is a big jump to £531 for the Fiesta Hotel and upwards for other hotels. On top of these prices may well be the transfers and also carriage on the aeroplane. Note that the all inclusive deal at the Vistamar will be at the nearby Flamingo Benidorm hotel.
I better start adding some additional details for all the hotels found in Benidorm since many people have never been.

While looking up cheap holidays to Turkey I noticed seveal other cheap holidays and this one to Corfu from Gatwick took my eye. 1st June 2009 to 8th June 2009 for 7 nights, 2 Adults, £709.55
BookMe2 had this to say on the hotel.
The Ambiente Palace Hotel, Pelekas is hidden away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. This 5* hotel is set against the picturesque mountainside of Pelekas and has fantastic views across Yaliscari Bay. The Yaliskari area has one of the most beatuiful sunsets in the whole of the Med and is also close to "Kaizer's Throne" - rated to be the most amazing view in Greece from many travel guides. Will suit couples of any age, especially those who enjoy walking, and anyone wanting a peaceful holiday in tranquil surroundings. The dramatic hillside setting gives rise to stunning views, however the hotel is not suitable for the less mobile because of the steep inclines. Located 500 metres from the beach down a steep hill, 300 metres up a steep hill to the nearest tavernas and mini-market and the village of Sinarades is 2.6 km and Pelekas is 4.3 km.
